چکیده

Multiple transmitter and receiver antennas can boost the reliability and capacity of wireless fading channels. When the channel is unknown to the transmitter and receiver, it is known that the fading coherence time in a piecewise-constant fading channel ultimately limits the channel capacity. In this work, we examine coding requirements for the unknown fading channel by computing the random coding error exponent. We show that the fading coherence time also plays a fundamental role in the error exponent, by proving that the error exponent is not increased by having more transmitter antennas than the number of samples in the coherence time. The signal structure that maximizes the exponent is computed and is shown to be very similar to the signal structure that achieves capacity. We calculate the minimum coding block length requirements as a function of probability of error for various fading coherence times. We conclude that coding over a certain number of independent fades is always needed to guarantee low probabilities of error, regardless of the coherence time.

Energy Detection of Unknown Signals over Composite multipath/shadowing Fading Channels

In this paper, the performance analysis of an energy detector is exploited over composite multipath/shadowing fading channels, which is modeled by Rayleigh-lognormal (RL) distribution. Based on an approximate channel model which was recently proposed by the author, the RL envelope probability density function (pdf) is approximated by a finite sum of weighted Rayleigh pdfs. Relying on this inter...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Rateless Coding for Block Fading Channels Using Channel Estimation Accuracy

The design of efficient rateless coding schemes for multicast applications in wireless environments is investigated. First, the digital fountain paradigm for non-ergodic channels is introduced by making use of the dynamic-decoding nature of rateless codes that allows them to adapt opportunistically the code rate to the channel realization (assumed unknown at the transmitter). The information th...

Tracking performance of incremental LMS algorithm over adaptive distributed sensor networks

in this paper we focus on the tracking performance of incremental adaptive LMS algorithm in an adaptive network. For this reason we consider the unknown weight vector to be a time varying sequence. First we analyze the performance of network in tracking a time varying weight vector and then we explain the estimation of Rayleigh fading channel through a random walk model. Closed form relations a...
